Lose Sleep, Gain Weight

Losing just a few hours of sleep a few nights in a row can lead to almost an immediate weight gain, concludes a study by the University of Colorado as reported in the New York Times.

Why is that? Because people, women especially, who weren’t getting enough sleep not only ate more, they ate more of the wrong things–carbohydrates.

The women (and men) who gained weight fastest slept only five or six hours a night. Who would have thought that a good night’s sleep can help keep the pounds off?

Weight gain is among the many concerns women bring to us during a typical OB-GYN exam or other office visit. Indeed, sometimes those visits turn out to be counseling sessions on women’s health and happiness.

The healthcare providers at NOCO Women’s Wellness are here to support our patients both medically and emotionally.
